Ohio by Tatiyana - February 2016 Scholarship Essay
Since I was a kid I would hear stories of the man with a dream, a man who would change the world with speeches and marches across America to unite all humans. That man with a dream is Martin Luther King jr. If I could sit down and talk over dinner with anyone it would be him. I proceeded to choose him because of his movement he had made before he was assassinated back in 1968. There have been other's like Martin but his movement stayed after his death and still continue to empower other's.Like other's I have read his speech and I came to the conclusion he left gaps of information almost hidden from the naked eye in between the line's. I feel that there is more to his famous dream that he did not touch base on during the time.
I feel like Martin Luther King jr was not finished and that he left in an important part of his mission. This man literally had a dream that changed our world and how most of us saw color's. The more I learned the more I realized how fascinating he was to me and learning his childhood and his experiences with racism and how he took racism and learned to understand it. He then begins to show other's how to deal with it on a positive note.
I would love to ask Martin Luther King about his home environment and rituals he would do before he marched. I would also love to know what he was thinking the day of his death and how he was feeling. I want to know where Martin got the courage and what made him do what he did. I mean I hated seeing bully's and a victim and so I made it my personal mission to stand up for people and bring awareness and so it would be an honor to hear his story.
He said, " I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed - we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." That day has not come but it's still being made and we all as a nation have come a long way. If I could choose anyone I would choose Martin Luther King jr.
