Ten Years From Now by Tatiana - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
In ten years, I will be about 4 years into my career as a registered nurse. I have always wanted to pursue my passion of helping people. Young, old and in-between I want to make a difference in people’s lives. The past year was a difficult year for me. I was in and out of the hospital with several surgeries. I realized that my nurses were who I spent most of my time with and who I connected with the most. I always knew that I wanted to go into medicine but I was leaning more towards physical therapy. After my experiences this year, I know where I need to be. I want to be the nurse that people remember for taking exceptional care of their loved ones. I want to connect with people and their families so that I can make their time spent in the hospital more comfortable.
My education is critical to my success. I need to have a high level of understanding of the body, medicine and how to effectively treat patients. I am prepared to work hard and put in the hours to be successful. By getting a good education, it will help my patients because they will trust that I know what I am doing. My patients will be comforted in knowing I am thoughtful, thorough and compassionate in caring for them. My education will ensure that I understand how to identify things that someone could potentially look over. It will teach me to listen and understand symptoms and signs of illness that a patient may not be able to communicate to me.
In ten years, I will be that nurse, the one that changes people’s lives. I will be someone who has already made a difference in hundreds of lives. In ten years I will have put in years of hard work at the hospital and experienced the highs of savings lives and the sorrow of lives lost. I will appreciate every day that I get to do what I love. At the end of the day I will go home to my family and love them and hug them tight because I know and I am reminded each and every day how precious life truly is.
