The Art of Changing Lives by Tashara - August 2017 Scholarship Essay
I have never been the type of person who can explain instructions and lesson well to others, I probably struggle more trying to explain what I am doing than actually doing it. Although, if I were to teach anything, it would probably be an visual arts class. Whether is it drawing, painting, or anything else are related, teaching it would be something I would enjoy.
Being a self-taught artist who began drawing at a very young age, I have a natural passion for art. I unconsciously share my own techniques and skill with others to help them with creating their own art. Bringing people to look at their work in different ways and motivating them into being comfortable and confident with what they create. I also tend to naturally take over the leadership role when it comes to working with others to create something beautiful and I really enjoy coming together with others to create visually pleasing pieces of work. Which leads me into explain why I would teach a visual arts class.
Teaching an art class to young people will create more creative and unique minds who are interested and motivated to create and explore in their lifetime. My main focus would be to teach students how to open their minds, and learn how to turn their ideas into actual finished projects. This will help students learn that then can turn any ideas for any goal or dream into real life accomplishments that are inside or outside of the art world. Art making teaches people that there is a process and steps that are needed to be taken to reach their final outcome. By teaching an art class, the skills, techniques, and knowledge I pass on to my student can be used in real-life situations and so on.
In conclusion, if I were a college professor, I would teach an visual art class because of my strong passion and connections I have to art, as well as equipping students with tools that can help them throughout life. Sharing my experiences, skills and techniques I have learned throughout my life and passing them to others, especially in the critical stage where young people are finding themselves and figuring out how they are going to live in the world, as well how they might leave a positive imprint on the world.
