A college degree has many benefits by Tanner - October 2024 Scholarship Essay

Although many people are going to trade schools, or just getting a job straight out of school I believe there are still many benefits to getting a college degree. Going to college gives you a different experience. My coach once said, “Enjoy it, that's the only time you can be poor and it’s ok.” Thus is the “college experience.”
I often hear people say to take it slow and stop trying to rush the experience. It can be one of the best times of your life and you need to enjoy it while it’s there. Going to college also gives you the first true feeling of independence. Especially if you stay in the dorms. You can learn many life lessons during college apart from even getting the degree you’re going for. You can also connect with people who’ll last beyond college and go with you throughout life. After all of the life lessons, it’s time for the reason you go to college, the degree. People all over might say that a degree is useless and a waste of money however, most jobs pay higher depending on the degree you get. A degree in your interest will prepare you for the job you want as well as get you ahead of those who have the same job without the degree if the job even allows those without one to be a part of it. Some jobs are only available with the right degree so you will be around those who are similar to you and making more than those without the degree.
Whether you go to college to get a degree or just because you want the “college experience” you will still learn a great deal of important life lessons. If you stick with it you will even paid more than those who don’t. Getting a degree has many benefits, between the important life lessons and the life-long connections you make with those around you, it is worth it.
