My non-profit that would impact the world by Taniya - April 2023 Scholarship Essay
With unlimited time and money, I would create a non-profit that would help people around the world in need of a fully furnished home supplied with food and water using the skills I learned in school, such as financing for a business, organization, and problem-solving.
A skill I learned that would impact my non-profit is financing a business. I was introduced to a business applications course in my first year of college. I learned to determine the average inventory, how to read an invoice, and the mathematics of buying. Through vigorous studying, note-taking, quiz retakes for a better grade, I was able to pass the class. Calculating the finances would make it possible to buy the amount of food, homes, and furniture people need, including the number of people, paying for services and invoices etc. One challenge of running a non-profit is lack of financial education. Not only would I have the money provided, but the education to know how to calculate the expenses of buying the things and identify any errors.
Another skill I learned in school that would also help my non-profit is organization. Starting college, I was not prepared for the six classes I had. It was hard to keep up with tests, discussion posts, and assignments. As a result, I was failing, so my mom suggested I get a board to organize my week. That helped tremendously with my tracking my school work. Currently, I still use the board in addition to my planner and reminders on my phone to help organize my assignments, due dates, and tasks. Having this skill would help me stay on top of the process of creating a non-profit. For instance, I would use the unlimited time I have organizing schedules, tasks for reports, budgeting, events, and planning ahead for appointments and meetings.
Finally, a critical skill I learned in school that would benefit my non-profit is problem- solving. For example, when I failed a test/quiz, I would ask my teachers if I could stay after school to retake it for a better grade. Knowing that there’s a problem that needs to be addressed and how to solve it is a skill I need to create a successful non-profit. A couple of problems of running a non-profit are unstable income and pressure to show results. I would use the unlimited time and money to generate income, causing it to show great results financially and effectively, for the people in need. And if I need extra help from experts. I would hire the best of the best financial advisors.
In conclusion, if I had unlimited time and money, I would run a non-profit that would provide people in need of a fully furnished home supplied with food and water using what I learned in school such as business financing, organization, and problem-solving to create a positive impact on the world.
