Ever since I was in elementary school I have been fascinated with psychology. This fascination was sparked by the television series, Criminal Minds.

The show focuses heavily on psychological profiling and understanding the behavior of criminals. As I continued to indulge in the series, I became increasingly curious in how our thoughts and behaviors were affected by the way we process and react to information.

My personal struggles have also contributed to my interest in psychology. In middle school, I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Attending therapy, exploring new coping mechanisms and using affirmations has taught me the psychological power the brain holds.

Throughout my high school career I have further explored my love for psychology through personal endeavors, research, books and classes at school.

Recently, I have noticed a shift in my interest and I have become curious about neurology.

I purchased a book that discusses simple neurological processes as an introduction to the subject and became intrigued in the development of neurological functions and cognition.

However, I cannot abandon my love for psychology and I yearn to learn more about it and neurology.

Hence my desire to study as a pre-med student and attend medical school to become a neuropsychologist. I hope to receive my bachelor’s degree in psychology while minoring in neuroscience or biology, then transfer to a residency program in order to fulfill my goal.

By gaining a deeper understanding of its functions we can further acknowledge the brain’s capabilities; I intend to do just that.

My love for neurology and psychology as well as my hunger for knowledge will allow me to be successful in the medical field.
