Success in the eyes of an African American Girl by Talaija - February 2021 Scholarship Essay
It has become easier to be a successful African American over the years. Thanks to our ancestors we are able to become successful in all walks of life. Black people are becoming lawyers, politicians, doctors, and presidents! When I think of us being oppressed not even a hundred years ago and where we are now. It's a sense of amazement. It inspires me to be successful and go down the same path as my ancestors.
Being successful in college means that I am at the top of my class getting good grades. I’m gaining experience from internships and working towards getting a career that will shape my future. Excelling in everything I do to get ready for the outside world.
When I envision myself being successful I see myself getting things done--being ahead of the game. I am mentally balanced. I made things happen for myself. Success is the ability to get things accomplished in order to reach well-being. Paying my last set of student loans, my last mortgage, and car payment are what I view as a pathway to success. Success is no longer having to worry about such things that will get in your way of being happy.
