If the role were reversed, which academic subject you would you teach and why? by Tahera - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

If the roles were reversed......

If the roles were reversed and I had to select a subject to teach, I would choose a science subject. I would mostly prefer to teach about the environment and about animals. From early childhood, I have always been fascinated by animals. Every time I would see an animal in the street, whether it be a dog or cat, I would immediately run up to pet the animal. I also admired the environment where I would find the different species of animals. Throughout the many science classes I took in elementary, middle and high school, my favorite chapter would always be the ones that talked about ecosystems and the animals living within.

Growing up, that love for animals went beyond petting them to concern for them. I care about the well-being of animals.Throughout the world, there are many animals who live in harsh or hostile environments. Encroachment, war and pouching, have driven many animal species towards endangerment and eventually extinction thus contributing to the loss of biodiversity. Also within today's bustling economy, many of our environments have seen better days. Expansion of businesses have led to massive deforestation, human waste and chemicals have polluted our oceans, and the high use of fossil fuels have depleted our ozone layer and have resulted in climate changes.

I would like to teach about animals and their environments because it is important for our young generation to understand and value their roles in the protection and conservation of our environments and ecosystems. By teaching this generation to value the environment and their inhabitants, they can make efforts to preserve the beautiful environments of earth and understand their significances beyond just monetary benefits. This is a topic to learn and discuss, especially in society nowadays, because it is important to start early in making a difference that will benefit generations to come. Let's leave behind a better earth for our generations coming tomorrow.....
Thank you
