Michigan (MI) by Syrena - February 2016 Scholarship Essay
If I could have dinner with any historical figure, it would be Angela Davis, because she was one of the many public figures and activist that fought for equality. Although it is very concealed at times, I believe there is still discrimination among all races all over the world. And discrimination includes more than skin color, it could also be gender. At this dinner, I would ask her what does she think should be done by the generation such as the way we communicate with each other.
This question is significant, because this generation is different from any other generation. We have made a lot of changes and have come a long way far from racism and discrimination. We have the power to take over and make the world a better place. However, I feel that my generation lacks communication, and we are desensitized to many things.
One of the things that Angela Davis did was communicate and demonstrate. She was not afraid to prove a point and tell someone that she loved them. Personally, it’s hard for me to fight as far as staying in school, when I have so many other things to fight for in my life. Angela Davis never quit. She fought and got her job as a professor at UCLA. She worked for what she had, and she never gave up.
