Identity Discovered by Sydney - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

My name is Sydney Pace and i discovered my college major when my Dad was close to death in the hospital. Nera Christmas time in December of 2020, COVID was going around and eventually we all got it in our household. But as me, my bother,a nd my mom got better, our Dad git significantly worse. We kept getting updates on Dad, good news and bad but I was having a really hard time processing it and even though sometimes they would let us Facetime, it still wasn’t the same. A few days later, in the middle of the night, the hospital put Dad on the phone because they thought it would be the last time we would get to talk to him because he was doing so badly. They were about to put him on a ventilator. They thought it was right to let his family talk to him before they did it but it was the hardest thing I ever had to do, say goodbye to the best dad in the world for maybe the last time. We were all devastated the next week because dad was still on the ventilator with the machine pushing out 100% oxygen into him. We just kept hearing bad news and barely any good and it was so overwhelming. After several more weeks, he finally started to improve and pretty soon he was strong enough to do at home rehabilitation and I finally got my dad back.
The way this experience has impacted me made me realize that I want to give back more to the nurses and doctors for helping my Dad by becoming a nurse myself. I saw how much their care really impacted me and m family and I knew that I wanted to make others feel that same way when I help their loved ones. arrior, and I am unfeigned to those around me.
