Essay: Success Is Different To Everyone by Sydney - February 2021 Scholarship Essay

Everyone has a different definition of success. To some, it means acquiring money and to others, it means being happy. Success to me means feeling accomplished by doing the things that I set my mind to and being able to provide myself luxuries in life. Going to college is a big step in my life that leads to learning and having more challenges so that I can excel. Doing things that make me happy or working on projects that will advance my educational career means that I will be able to provide for myself
Firstly, to me, there is not a simple definition of what success means. Everyone holds different things in high regard and therefore the term success cannot be defined in one sentence. Personally, I’m a driven person who thrives on new experiences and enjoys working hard. I set a goal for myself and once I accomplish it I can relax and enjoy the work that I’ve put in. That is the definition of success to me because it means that I’ve done something I wanted to do and it has gotten me somewhere. Sometimes it’s as simple as making time for myself, or going to different places because I’m so busy it feels like I always run out of time. Other times it’s finishing homework, a project, or the best feeling is when a test goes well after hours of studying. In these instances, I feel accomplished because the time and effort that I put in was worth it and has made me a little closer to what I want my life to be like.
Secondly, success in college will feel similar I think because the sense of accomplishment will be there still. The work will be harder and keeping up good grades is going to take even more grit so it will be an even bigger sense of accomplishment. I grew up in a small town where people didn’t have the drive to go anywhere or do anything with their lives and that was an ever-present theme in my elementary school. My ambition developed here and the fact that I will be going to college shows that I worked hard enough to get to that point to even get the chance to go to college. This proves to me that I can be successful and make a change in the journey of my life. Success in college is graduating and getting a useful degree. With my success from college I will have the ability to afford luxuries and live the lifestyle that I want, which is not having to struggle for things. This is my idea of success in college and what the outcome of it will be.
Lastly, my definition of success and success in college coincide in many ways. My idea of success is to feel accomplished because of completing the things that I do while success in college has the ultimate goal of graduating with a degree, which is something I’m working towards. Once I graduate I will know that succeeded in one of the biggest live events for my generation. I’ve worked my whole life towards that moment. My success will lead me to the life that I want to live where I have access to the things I need and want as well as luxuries to reward myself for my hard work.
In conclusion, there is no set definition of success because different things are important to everyone. Money, fame and fortune is the most common thought when someone describes success. I enjoy things that are freeing and require dedication because that means I’ve done something with my life. College is the biggest moment in a person’s life and by graduating you’ve completed this step and furthered yourself. Being happy with my decisions and not wasting my life dreaming of what could have been, but instead doing those things. This is my definition of success.
