Attending College is Important... For Some by Sydney - April 2020 Scholarship Essay

College is not for everyone, we already know this. Some people just aren't academically cut out for it or financially, there are plenty of deterrents. For me, the purpose of college is to get a degree that will lead to a career. Along the way, I'll gain friends, have internships, obtain transferable skills, and so much more. College is truly an incredible experience that I am very grateful for.

However, as I mentioned, not everyone is fortunate enough to have the same opportunities as I do. Some people just don't want to go to college and I completely understand why. Out of High School, you can start a career. You can go into a field supported by vocational courses or start in a company as a recruiter or salesperson. Down the line, in certain industries, you may need a Bachelor's degree to get the promotion. At that point, it's up you if you want to do some classes while you're working.

Overall, people are accountable for their decisions. Unfortunately, there are many inhibiting factors that can slow people down. If you want to get your Bachelor's at 40, do it. If you never want to go back to school, do it. If you want to get your PHD, do it. People are free to do what they choose, ultimately, it's up to that person and their priorities in life.
