A Little Girls Dream by Sydney - February 2019 Scholarship Essay

As a kid, I’ve always wanted to learn more about animals. My grandmother is a dog breeder, and ever since I was seven years old, I’ve helped her deliver puppies and help with taking her dogs to the vet clinic for checkups. From the first day of helping her to now, I’ve realized that my love for animals has grown tremendously. Growing up with this experience and opportunity in my life has given me a chance to develop and think whether or not I want to further my journey on becoming a Veterinarian.
After going to a small private Catholic school since pre-K, my sophomore year of High School I had the opportunity to check out a local career school (Springfield-Clark Career Technolgy Center), and that’s when my life started to change. I decided to attend the Springfield-Clark Career Technology Center. I studied your average academic classes and Animal Science the whole year, where I learned Medical terminology, animal diseases, proper care for a variety of animals and critical points on how to be a Veterinarian. That is when I found out that my passion for animals is real and that it’s time to get serious and to start working extra hard to get better grades. That is how I got to be a part of the National Honor Society; I worked hard and showed excellent leadership skills in the classroom and the community. My senior year which I'm currently in now, I am still studying Animal Science, but it's more advanced this year learning about animal anatomy, going into depth with terminology, and diseases. I'm starting to realize throughout my senior year that when I'm looking for the right college for me, I need to start focusing on a college that will help me achieve my goal of becoming a Veterinarian. That is why I think that going to college will give me that extra hands-on experience and will give me the confidence that I will need to help with my admission to a veterinary school and the workforce.
I work for a local veterinarian, and I also work for my lab instructor after hours to help take care of the animals. The doctors and assistants have told me that going into Veterinarian medicine is one of the more challenging fields of study. Despite all the challenges I hear I will face, I still have devoted my recent years to be part of it, even going so far as to get a job at a veterinarian's office. Even though the journey of going the veterinary route is going to be tough, I can’t begin to imagine my life without it now.
