Time Management by Sydney - September 2014 Scholarship Essay
Time management is the key to success in college. College is the first time in a student’s life that they are completely on their own. They do not have a parent, teacher, or coach hounding them about finishing work on time. The student is reliable for completing all class assignments and taking care of all their physical needs. Without time management, a student may get distracted by all the extra-curricular activities available around the campus. Also, the student does not have someone telling them when to retire for the night or when to partake in meals.
The lack of proper planning with allotted times for recreation and work will cause a college student to most likely neglect his or her studies until the last possible minute. The outcome of neglecting school work for recreational activities is that the student entertains a higher probability of earning a lower grade on the assignment. If the assignment is deemed unworthy by the professor of a decent grade and the student does not do anything to reprimand the ignorance, then he or she will eventually be forced out of college for failing courses.
Time management is highly important for a student to be able to be responsible enough to obtain a job or be part of an organization. The majority of students need a job to earn spending money or money to be putting towards paying off the college loans. Jobs and extracurricular activities require major planning because they are at allotted times during the day and multiple times a week. Excuses are not acceptable for missing a shift or practice, and with too many mishaps of tardiness or absences the student is most likely to be dismissed from the organization. Also, juggling a job or practice along with school work will be extremely difficult if the student does not set priorities and goals for the case load he or she has taken on.
Without proper time management a student may become lazy or highly stressed. These are two very different extremes, but both are highly plausible. Becoming lazy would be from the lack of the student caring about amounting to anything important in life. Becoming stressed is more likely the case for the majority of students because they get behind and feel like they are trapped in a never ending cycle of due dates. Both of these cases are not good for the student’s health. A lazy student increases the probability for health issues such as obesity. A stressed student will most likely become sleep deprived which will eventually affect his or her ability to function properly. These are factors that could possibly affect the future of the students experiencing them.
Time management is the key to a successful college career. Time management allows the student to be successful in not only classes, but in extracurricular activities such as a job or athletics. Time management plays a large role in the health of the student because without timeliness the student encounters many roadblocks that may cause them to find necessary thing such as proper meals unimportant. Without learning the skill of time management before or during college a student will most likely not be as productive in life or as successful.
