The Prize is Right by Sydney - December 2018 Scholarship Essay

The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the most prestigious awards that a person can win. Since 1901, less than two hundred people have been given this award. The Norwegian Nobel Committee consists of five members that have been appointed by members of the Norwegian parliament. They have a short-list of candidates and pick people based off of their contributions to society. Nobel Peace Prize winners include former presidents of the United States, Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter, former vice president Al Gore, and teenage activist, Malala Yousafzai. If I was on the committee to award the Nobel Prize, I would pick a candidate that possesses both honesty and dedication.
Being smart is not enough for a Nobel Peace Prize. There are several individuals who have high IQs and test scores, but not everyone is Nobel Peace Prize material. If that was the case, a qualification for a Nobel Peace Prize would be a 4.0 GPA all throughout a nominee’s undergraduate career. Dedication would be a requirement for me because if you are passionate about something, you work hard at it and it becomes a part of you. I admire dedication because it shows that one genuinely cares about what it is they are doing.
Honesty is the best quality that someone could have. Being honest with yourself is more important than anything in the world because honesty can make or break you. Remaining honest is the key to success. You have to know what works and what does not work. I would want to pick an honest person because I can believe that they are true with themselves and their future endeavors.
Although there are no clear requirement lists to picking a Nobel Prize winner, there is a lot that goes into picking. I would ensure that whoever I pick has honesty and dedication before I examine the rest of what they have to bring to the table.
