Learning In 25 Years by Sydnee - September 2018 Scholarship Essay

My grandmother once said to me, “I truly believe I learn something new everyday.” Ever since, I have looked at learning differently. I am taught new things in everyday life through my family and friends, the internet, reading books, and my employment. There are many different types of learning that can apply to your life. I see myself continuing to learn in 25 years by absorbing new information through everyday life.
My family and friends advance my education through many different ways. For example, my father teaches me about personal finance. Throughout the year my father will give me short lessons on how to save, spend, and invest my money to get me further in life. My mother gives me advice about complications I face. How to create solutions to problems is my mom’s expertise. I learn how to gain and shape my relationships by my friends. In 25 years, life, financial, and relationship advice will guide me through different paths of my life. Although people help me learn, my everyday interactions on the internet teach me things as well.
Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and many others teach me news, and other individual lessons. I follow various news networks on social media, which give me recent updates on what is going on around me. I am taught more about the world through social media and news channels. In 25 years there will be bigger and better things within the “internet,” which I will be accustomed to. Recently, many things have been on the news, I am seeing these updates through my social media, which is overall helping me to be involved within the world. Reading news stories and other information has taught me how diverse the world is.
I have read an assortment of books throughout my lifetime. From children’s books to novels, books are one of the largest sources of information for me. When I was younger, when I read children’s books, they would teach me lessons on my manners, and how to treat others. Now that I am grown, I tend to read fiction and nonfiction novels. Fiction and nonfiction novels teach me about others experiences, which will ultimately shape the way I would react to a similar situation. I read new vocabulary daily, teaching me other terms to use in place of a word or to generally expand my vocabulary. In 25 years I will still be reading novels and will continue to gain information about other’s encounters, while my vocabulary will continue to grow. My employment has also helped me learn precious information.
At my employer I learn how to use positive customer service to my advantage, which I will take with me for the rest of my life. Learning things from other employees and my bosses will also shape me to be my future person. I have worked since I was able to apply for a job, allowing me to teach myself about how to handle different situations that arise. In 25 years I will have a steady job, and will still be learning from my other co-workers about life in general. I am hoping to help others around me learn from my experiences as well.
Overall my experiences in my life have and will continue to teach me valuable lessons. In 25 years I will have gained a variety of information and will continue to learn. Through my family and friends, the internet, reading, and employment, I will learn more information about myself and others. I thrive to learn something new everyday, just like the valuable lesson my grandmother taught me.
