The Cycle of Learning and Education by Sybil - July 2019 Scholarship Essay
The brain is a sponge for information. The amount it can store is virtually endless if one pays attention, which leads to curiosity and a hunger for knowledge. People naturally want to understand things that interest them, meaning that everyone has a passion for learning in some shape or form, whether it be in regards to arithmetic or sportscars. However, this is not to be confused with a passion for education.
In my mind education refers to more than just learning. It refers to the entire process, meaning that someone with a passion for education enjoys not only the act of receiving new information but also the act of sharing it. In other words, those with a passion for education are teachers as well as students. The act of imparting knowledge to others is just as important as learning it in the first place because it facilitates the continuous spreading of knowledge. If one is passionate enough about a topic to share it with another, then they have a passion for education. Not only have they educated themself, but they have also educated others.
While people with a passion for learning enjoy gaining new information on a topic, those with a passion for education enjoy sharing it in addition. The thirst for knowledge is present in both traits, but the drive to share the knowledge is prevalent in a passion for education. This means that those with a passion for education utilize the knowledge that they gain in a multitude of ways. Not only do they use their expertise in a practical sense, but they also educate others in order to keep their interests relevant. Having this passion means that one is able to enjoy helping and seeing others succeed in fields of interest.
This characteristic is important because it will keep information alive. If one is truly interested about mastering their field of interest, educating others is an integral job. This means that having a passion for education is practically required to be at the top of any field due to the importance of bringing forth a generation of learners and educators. It is a continuous cycle; professionals in any field teach the fledgeling learners, who then take the role of the educator once they master their trade. This means that a passion for education is fostered is those who pursue more learning. Learning and education work hand in hand.
