The Importance of Taking Action by Sury - July 2024 Scholarship Essay

The Importance of Taking Action

The most important lesson I have learned this year is that if I want to achieve and have an accomplishment in life, it is within me to take responsibility and take action. I am sure many are aware that many things are easier said than done. This is a conflict I find myself having trouble with. However, I realized that in this world, nothing will be handed to me, and nothing is free. If I want to be somewhere, hard work and perseverance are the way to go.

I have always been told since my youth that acting upon a thought was key, but I never imagined that it would come in handy. Becoming a rising senior is quite worrisome, and the advice I was given was the most brilliant and important lesson I have learned on how to succeed in life.

This year, I have had to balance my studies, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work. I am a member of the Hope Club, where we focus on helping our community through various projects. I also volunteer constantly at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where I have learned the value of giving back and being part of something bigger than myself. Additionally, I play varsity rifle, which has taught me discipline and the importance of practice.

These experiences have shown me that taking responsibility and action is crucial. In the Hope Club, we often have great ideas for projects, but they only come to life when someone steps up to organize and execute them. At the church, I have seen how small actions, like organizing a food drive or helping with an event, can make a big difference. In varsity rifle, I have learned that consistent practice and dedication are necessary to improve and succeed.

This lesson will impact me moving forward as I prepare for college and my future career. I plan to major in Business Administration, Finance, or Management, at one of the colleges I am considering, such as the University of Georgia, Kennesaw State University, and, Agnes Scott. In these fields, taking responsibility and action will be essential. Whether it is leading a team, managing a project, or developing a marketing strategy, I know that I will need to take initiative and work hard to achieve my goals.

As a Hispanic woman, I am proud of my heritage and the values it has instilled in me. My family has always emphasized the importance of hard work and perseverance. These values have helped me maintain a high GPA of 3.85 and stay committed to my extracurricular activities and volunteer work. I know that these values will continue to guide me in college and beyond.

In conclusion, the most important lesson I have learned this year is that if I want to achieve and have an accomplishment in life, it is within me to take responsibility and take action. As I prepare for college and my future career, I am confident that this lesson will help me succeed. I am grateful for the opportunity to apply for the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest and share this important lesson with you.
