Future Business Leaders of America (FLBA) is a student organization that focuses on leadership, business, and teamwork amongst its members. This organization has provided a pivotal role in shaping the leaders of tomorrow, especially for students like me going into the business or technology industry. Furthermore, the organization with its rich history and traditions, creates an astonishing learning environment that delves deeper beyond textbooks and classrooms. Being secretary for my High School’s Future Business Leader of America organization has supported my future career goals in many ways such as allowing me to have effective communication skills and knowledge of business.
First of all, a key aspect of the secretary role is clear and concise communications with peers including other members and officers. Clear communication has supported my future goals, since my ultimate goal is to pursue a career as a product manager which requires communication across the other technology roles to develop a product. Being a part of FBLA allowed me to meet new individuals across different grade levels. Adding on to this, we all had to communicate with each other to develop future meetings and plan out events, this is similar to the role of product managers. By being the secretary of FBLA I had to learn to adapt my communication style to cater to different audiences. As a product manager, I know I will have to work with diverse teams and customers, and adapting my communication approach will be beneficial. These skills will be highly valuable for pursuing my goal of becoming a product manager.
Second of all, FBLA exposes its members to various factors of the business industry and world, such as entrepreneurship, finance, and leadership. By becoming secretary, I noticed firsthand students gain experience in running an organization together. We all worked together to plan events, budget, and project management. By performing market analysis, individuals are able to analyze market trends depending on customer needs, this portion is similar to the role of a product manager. Moving forward, as FBLA planned events for fundraising, we needed to understand sales and marketing alignment. This is another characteristic of business knowledge that will support my future goal in becoming a product manager. Understanding sales processes and marketing techniques helps product managers support their teams and create a successful product in a competitive market.
Being a secretary of FBLA has impacted my future goals and aspirations. Through many events of business knowledge and effective communication FBLA has created students with unique skills for their academic careers and to prosper even further in their career goals. Thus, the role of an FBLA secretary has created a stepping stone for me to move towards a successful future in the world of business and technology.
