Life Reflection of a Young Scholar by Steven - June 2017 Scholarship Essay
“Dreams are the infinite thoughts that spark our ingenuity. We don’t always feel as they are plausible, but in our hearts they condemn us to spectacular feats of greatness.” I’ve been thinking about this statement as it has been repeated in my mind since I was a young child. What compels me to imagine a plethora of achievements beyond my current grasp? Though it wasn’t apparent when I was 6 years old, I definitely felt as if I was on top of the world.
However, I don’t remember who, or what I wanted to be. Some children may have thought of being the next sports star, or legendary movie celebrity. Steven Ebker, the young child who played and laughed all day, never aspired to nothing but himself. Coming from a strictly educated family, life as student was a top priority for my future, yet I didn’t internalize its purpose. The life that came from meeting up with the kids on the block were some of the most memorable experiences I share today. They infused my personality with joy and curiosity, molding me into who I am today.
Unlike the 6 year old whose dreams were masked in haughtiness, life in the modern era feels like a dream itself. Indeed, I continue to think about how great being a millionaire, or well-known celebrity would be, but motivation and self-realization drive me to reality instead of fantasy. I can dream all I would like, but moving forward with each step is conducted with the schematics of a successful role model. Education has been especially important to me by influencing my views of right and wrong decisions for myself. It has given me a reason to make other people, especially young believers, understand that aspirations are capable of becoming reality.
If I were to factor down how my 6 year old self influenced my education, it would have to be the confidence to do anything. Musting the courage to stand out from the crowd, such as in my high school student government club, and owning my mistakes are particular skills that have lead me to the promised education I envisioned. Though I am salutatorian of my graduating class, though I am an active participant in several clubs, and though I love to be educated, having dreams as a child enlightened my understanding of the power confidence has in people’s lives. Some may say I am arrogant, but the will to do anything I want to accomplish is what lead me to pursue a college education.
