Living a life with both eyes open. by Steven - April 2014 Scholarship Essay

Not everyone will get the concept of living with both eyes open, but there are a few who do. I read a book about Aristotle whom at the time I had no idea about. He talked about how life is not just a cycle of repetitiveness but a certain amount of time given to us so that we may learn as much as we could about how the world worked, and how to tackle the most difficult situations. I have been influenced ever since I had the pleasure of reading about Aristotle. Growing up I went to public school and we were barely taught how anything worked, I took it upon myself to read about history and use my experiences when I traveled to incorporate them and formulate a base that I would eventually be able to use to define who I am.

Today I am an individual who is well cultured, savvy on how the world works and able to hold a conversation with rich content to name a few. I am working towards my goal of becoming the next decorated United States Air Force Flag Officer. I am someone who wants to tackle the hardest of problems and work in the fields that take a very high mental acumen and acuity to be successful. Without the teachings of Aristotle and his influences I could possibly be just another statistic and living a repetitive life.
