Education Helping Decisions by Stephanie - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

Stephanie Kasper
Education Helping Decisions
Many individuals do not know where they will be in 10 years or where they want to be, for that matter. Fortunately, I see myself as a nurse preferably in the pediatric field where I will be working with younger children. My education will help me achieve this goal in multiple ways such as, the courses I can take at school. Also, my job that I have right now, which is watching 2nd and 3rd graders after school with help me achieve my goal as well. Over all, my education is and will continue to help me reach my goal of becoming a well developed nurse in 10 years.
The high school I attend has multiple science courses that are specifically for the medical field. These courses such as; anatomy, bio med and psychology, have well developed curriculums that help students become further educated in this type of work. I am quite thankful for these classes because without them I would not have the education to succeed in a nursing career. Moreover, these classes have further assured me that I want to be a nurse through the knowledge they have given me. I have received influential academic education, but the education through my job has impacted my goal of where I would like to be in 10 years.
My job title is S.A.F.E Counselor where I watch kids from 3 p.m to 6 p.m every day after school. I love working with children therefore this could not of been a better job for me at this point in my life. Working with the kids has made me realize how much I truly enjoy being around them which is why I believe that I should pursue a career as a nurse in the pediatric field. Furthermore, the education I have received while working is how to handle a child in any situation such as; two kids fighting, someone getting hurt, and perhaps a child confused with homework. Even though these types of situation may not happen in a hospital setting it is still educating me on how to interact with children, which my academic education cannot teach me. Therefore, my job is another example on how my education is further influencing my goal to become a nurse in 10 years.
Someone’s education should not stop, there is always more to learn. Throughout my education thus far it has helped me decide on where I would like to be in 10 years. Not only through my academics, but also through my job I have decided on my life-long goal. My overall education has influenced my decision but my learning has not stopped nor will it.
