Strengthen the Foundation by Stephanie - July 2022 Scholarship Essay

Education is the foundation of a good society. It should be inclusive and open while allowing room for free expression. Our modern education has many issues that need to change in order to reach that level of learning. In the next ten years, I hope to see a more including, free, and inviting education. People of all learning levels should feel welcomed to learn and free to wonder, ask questions, and explore education.
Right now, there are many stereotypes and prejudices about education. Children with more creative ideas are frowned upon and forced to learn the way other students do, often suffering because of it. Those above the “average” college-age (40+) are often looked down on for asking questions or wanting to be included, because many assume they should know the information. I have witnessed both of these situations and more. As a society, we have to break those stereotypes and learn to move forward with education. Doing so might allow people of all ages to welcome learning into their lives.
Many schools still refuse to be inclusive in classrooms, referring to special education, which only continues to divide students. Allowing students with and without special needs to be in the same classroom allows them to interact in a safe and friendly environment. Students can see and experience that everyone is different, having their own strengths and weaknesses. If children are never exposed to that, they will see students who look or act differently from them as abnormal. In the next ten years, schools need to work on having all-inclusive classrooms in order to fully transform education.
By 2032 I hope to see fully inclusive schools offering open, accepting, and equal education for all. There should be no biases or stereotypes challenging people. Education should be an opportunity for everyone, no matter age, sex, nationality, race, abilities, etc. We need to learn from each other and tear down the walls in education that divide. No more judgment of age, achievement level, or class. Since we have all depended on education our entire lives, from learning to cry for help to solving calculus, we should unite to make it better. Education should be easily accessible and equal for all people.
Education is the foundation of a great, modern society–and without it, we will collapse. Let’s join together to prevent the fall by improving our nation's foundation.
