#Options by Stephanie - April 2018 Scholarship Essay
As the cars drove past, my lungs filled with dusty air. I coughed a little but kept up the pace. It was one of the days, my mom couldn’t pick me up from the bus stop so I had to walk the mile to our house down the unpaved, dusty and rocky road. I did not mind because it gave me time to think.
As I walked down the road, my thoughts always led me to college. More specifically, the life I wanted after college. I wanted to move to a big city, have a fabulous condo and an amazing job that allows me to travel. Most people in the town I grew up in, never left but stayed and worked in local super markets, family stores or in the local school system. I wanted something different for myself as I knew there was more to the world then what I had learned in my small town. I knew getting an education would allow me to have the option to leave and immerse myself in the world around me.
Education gives options to those who often dream of a different life for themselves and their family. It allows them develop the skills needed to obtain jobs that they may have only imagined having. My education gave me option to pursue my passion of working with kids to make sure that they have options upon their graduation from high school. I worked to provide them with a solid education by providing them with the tools and skills needed to be competitive in the world we live in today.
Pursuing my next degree will open up a new array of options. Education means options because it allows a person to expand the opportunities that are presented to them at each stage of their learning. Education gave me the option to move to New York City and it will continue to give me options as I move to the next stage in my career.
