A New Beginning by Stephanie - June 2013 Scholarship Essay
Going back to school and pursuing my dream, is like a new beginning to me. I am 48 years old, so going back to school was quite a daunting concept. I have been married, raised two wonderful children, and I've worked hard at my job as a medical transcriptionist for the past 14 years. In the last two years, however, I have struggled through some challenging times. My marriage of 23 years ended very sadly, my children are heading to college and starting out on their own, and lastly my job has made major cutbacks and I no longer able to support myself on my own. I believe the path my life is taking is meant to be. I want to take charge of my life. I want to strive for a secure financial future for myself, and my family. I have been so blessed to have been accepted into the Respiratory Therapy program at Jefferson College of Health Sciences and now I can finally pursue my dream of working in the medical field, helping others, and making a difference. Through my divorce, job cutbacks, and dealing with my children leaving home, I have struggled a lot over the last few years. I now feel like I have a new beginning. Going back to school and obtaining a new career will boost my confidence and my self esteem. It will make me feel hopeful about the future again.
