I don’t wish, I will be. by Stanlin - April 2025 Scholarship Essay
Deciding what I want to do for my career wasn’t an easy choice. At first I dreamt of becoming an astronaut, then I became fascinated with the idea of contributing to aerospace by becoming an engineer but dreams get knocked down. College is far too expensive for me especially as a teenager who’s struggling to get a job despite the numerous job app’s I’ve written and sent. I figured since I’ve taken dual enrollment accounting classes, why not become a CPA? Accounting isn’t so bad and it’s fun to learn the intricacies of a business. I almost settled down for this but again it’s out of my price range. I looked more into other options and I see if I move to a regional campus then my given scholarships should be enough to cover the time I’ll be there just enough so that I may pursue my bachelors in financial management. It’s not exactly what I wanted to be but it’s close enough and I’m betting I’ll be good at it. I don’t just wanna be a guy making six figures but I want to be a role model and an inspiration to others in my family. I will be the first to become a college student and the first to pursue a solid and stable career. My siblings don’t have anyone to look up to when it comes to success so I’d like to be the one to show them that it’s very much possible and within their grasp. I’ve always been an optimistic person and I feel that’s carried me through the adversities I faced to get in a position in which I am deciding what my future will entail. I love my family and I’ll love the journey I will take to become somebody in many worlds.
