Math teacher by stanley - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

If the roles were reversed and I was the one teaching a classful of students I would teach a math class. I would teach a math class, because I have excelled at math in previous years and I find the subject to be very interesting and even enjoyable to participate in. More specifically I think that I would teach a college algebra class because it encompasses a large portion of the math field and I would enjoy teaching my students about the many different fields of mathematics.
I believe I would be a very good teacher, because I have a thorough understanding of the majority of mathematic subjects and I could use my understanding of these subjects to simplify what is generally one of the hardest classes for most college students. I have also tutored several people through their college algebra classes and they have seen significant improvement from the time they started the class to the point at which I started tutoring them through the class. I also enjoyed tutoring these people through their college algebra courses, it gave me a sense of accomplishment to see my students accomplishing their goals. On top of the sense of accomplishment it gave me to see my students succeed, my students were often my own family members and to know that I am helping my family achieve a college degree makes me feel great about the time I spent with them.
When I tutored my students I never required a fee for my teaching services. I felt that helping these people succeed in their course of study was more important than a pay day for me. I was also very busy with other extracurricular activities at my school, so I did not want to require my students to pay for a service that may vary in duration from day to day. Although I am busy with extracurricular activities at my school, I find time to help my students in any way I can and explain the concepts of mathematics from the elementary to the extremely difficult lessons.
In conclusion, I have enjoyed every minute that I have spent tutoring people through their mathematic courses. I believe that if the roles were reversed, and I was a teacher of mathematics, I would enjoy every moment just as thoroughly as I have enjoyed every moment of my tutoring opportunities.
