Education For Yourself by Stacy - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
It seems that education is increasingly becoming something that people only take part in because it is required or expected of them. Students take their opportunities for education for granted and only do the work required to get them the grades that they want.
Despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of students treat their education as if the letter grade they receive is the most important, the value of education goes far beyond your grade, your GPA, or even the high paying job you may get because of your degree. Education is about expanding your mind because you want to learn.
Education should not be seen as merely a path to money or status. Education is not the journey, it is the destination. The purpose of education is for each student to discover literature, history, mathematical concepts, languages, science, and through these things- themselves. Being educated teaches you about yourself; it makes you consider what you think about topics, discover things that you do and do not like, and push your mind to do things that you never would have thought you were capable of.
Education is a constant opportunity to know yourself and to find the place that best suits you in society at your highest potential. The true purpose of education should always be to become the best version of yourself that you can possibly be. Education is the constant and deliberate seeking of the paramount of your personal capacity.
