Resilience
Resilience and overcoming hardships has been a part of my life. Being home schooled in a lower class family my dad was constantly working and rarely got to see him. While my mother was at home struggling to keep our household together. As a child, I watched my parent's marriage crumble under their struggles, ending up in divorce.
In High school my sports and academics where my opportunity to interact with students. Unfortunately, I was cut from the basketball team freshman year. As determined volunteer and players quitting I made the team. I never looked back, playing for the varsity team till I graduated. Furthermore, I ended high school with academic honors and a 3.5 GPA.
I was excited to be accepted to Chico state but I began partying which led me to drop out and return home and attended a local Junior college 35 miles away in Merced CA and worked full time. Unfortunately, the partying followed me and I ended up with jail time, DUI, and probation. Through counseling and support of others I turned my life around and returned to school to accomplish my goal. I left Merced Junior College with a 3.7 GPA for SAC STATE where I am currently fallowing my love of sports in Kinesiology and Biology. I am about to start spring 2018 semester with a 3.4 overall GPA. I am apart of Phi Theta Kappa and Kappa Omicron Nu honor societies and Vice President of the Pre-Physical Therapy Club. I have a goal of owning Physical Therapy clinic in the future. Through the struggles I have experienced, and overcome, I have found that having dreams and setting goals has made all the difference in my life. I want to use these experiences and resilience to connect with my patients and help them to also overcome adversity by using exercise to instill a positive mental attitude to heal and rehabilitate themselves.
