Thanks To A TV Show, My Dream Is To Be A Forensic Scienctist by Sophie - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

The major I imagine myself choosing in the span of a year is forensic science. Forensic science to me seemed like an interesting major to study, since I would do hands-on investigations and would help obtain justice for families who longingly don't receive an answer to their case. Though, my personal experience that led me to want to study forensic science is weirdly due to a TV show called the Flash.
Within the criminal justice side of my heart, I am also a movie and TV show fanatic. Since in The Flash, the main character is a CSI (criminal scene investigator) there would be times when the audience would get to see what he would do in his everyday life as a CSI. Working in the field by viewing crime scenes and also executing lab work that was more chemistry based. This got me motivated to do my research about what a CSI is like in the real world, acquiring many skills one may have not known existed.
Not only did the work one does as a CSI intrigue me, but so did the impact being a forensic scientist could have on a community. Solving cases that may have gone unsolved for a long time or where others would not bother to solve them would be a dream of mine. It would be an honor to peacefully lay down a case, informing people what happened to their loved ones. Which is what The Flash is all about, saving the lives of people, not only by being a superhero but also serving his community by being a CSI. Making me believe I could do the same and give back to my community.
This major will allow me to give my community a voice to state the truth, especially underrepresented communities that long to be heard by others. Communities that make up a large portion of minorities get treated differently by the criminal justice system, which is why I would be willing to change that deep-rooted belief and create an environment full of equality. Overall, striving to follow The Flash's path of being able to apply my passion for science and help seek justice and the truth.
