Leading Yourself to Victory by Sophia - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
When one thinks about college, they think about the complete freedom they are about to receive for the first time in their life. They're about to live on their own, be responsible for their actions as they are more than likely 18 years old, and lastly the leader of their own path. To succeed in college is to learn the most that you can and really learn who you are as an adult. Leadership of other's is not part of a successful college experience; one needs to be able to lead themselves down their own path in life.
Sure, in college you can go to parties and make so many life-long friends, but those memories can fade. What one and everyone else can truly remember are the final grades and awards. Being a success in college s to get the best grades possible. A student needs to push themselves into studying and writing their papers on their own; there are no mothers or fathers over your shoulder to hiss at you when you goof off. Self-leadership, or more so accountability, is the most important quality a student can have.
In conclusion, you do need leadership skills to be successful in college but not in the average weight you think. One needs the perspicacity to see that leading your own life is more important than being able to lead others.
