academically challenging situation by sophia - April 2019 Scholarship Essay
I always did good in school and could even be considered a teacher's pet. I always got straight A's and a B was an F in my eyes. This all changed for me my sophomore year in high school. Sophomore year was when the work started to get hard and I wasn't used to not naturally knowing the material anymore, which was a big struggle for me. After a long time and a lot of thinking, I was able to grow from this and learn from it in the future.
Sophomore year started out as any other with straight A's and easy tests that I found no need to study for. After my first F I was completely shocked and utterly upset because I had felt like a complete failure. At first I tried to go in for help so I could understand the material better, but nothing seemed to help me. I tried and tried until eventually I just gave up, which was the worst decision I had made in my whole life. I decided that if something was too hard I was just going to fail to make it easier on myself. This poor attitude kept up the rest of the year and I had done the worst I ever had in school. I completely gave up and lost my drive.
Once junior year started I realized that college was right around the corner and I needed to get my act together so I can get into college and be able to become successful in life. Having messed up sophomore year it completely ruined the GPA I initially started very well with in high school, and it is very hard to bring back up a GPA. I regret making that decision sophomore because maybe if I had done better than I would have been able to get more scholarships from schools. I am happy, though, that I learned from this lesson. Now whenever I want to give up I remember how much I regret that to this day, and I keep pushing through to succeed no matter what.
