Lessons For A Lifetime by Sophia - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
The most important lesson that I've learned from a teacher is to follow my dreams, pursue my desires, and with the proper motivation, I can do anything and be anyone. Achievement of my goals is a state of mind, and will be accomplished. The world is filled with so many opportunities and for young students, the world awaits.
Teachers have also taught me the importance of getting involved with the school and the community. I volunteer at a veterinarian clinic and have volunteered for 190 hours. The feeling of knowing that I'm helping in my community is one of great pride. Teachers have enlightened upon me that with every positive opportunity I should be diligent in my desire for success. Whether applying for a scholarship such as this, or joining a club in which I am interested, I should tackle the opportunity. Even if the end result is not what is desired, ultimately I have the knowledge, confidence, perseverance and desire to keep moving forward. I will always push myself to utilize these qualities and continue to better myself and the lives of others.
For example, my school offers AP classes which are classes in which college credit is received upon successful completion. School administrators had encouraged me to take one of the rigorous AP classes my freshmen year and the benefit is undeniable! I feel more prepared and have a better understanding of what college classes will entail. My AP human geography teacher taught me many new things. She has inspired me to continue to take AP courses throughout my high school path. Over the years, I've learned from teachers that they are only here to help, they can only do so much, push me so far and the rest is up to me. It's my choice as a student in regard to the decisions I make. I've been taught that whatever I do now matters most. My future is now being determined by the actions I take.
As I stated above, I will use the positive qualities with which I identify throughout my life.
Teachers are the people who have inspired and awoken this passion, and lessons learned will stay with me and guide me on my life journey.
