#BrainPower by Sonia - April 2018 Scholarship Essay
“Go to school, get remarkable grades, study smart.” These are all prudent words that sail out of my parent’s lips. Education to me is an opportunity for success because not everyone is entitled to quality education; for example, my parents never valued their education. Education to me is valuable and it is a defensible weapon that I can use perpetually. My parents portrayed in their journey in life that education is extremely important. When they were young they chose to work early and earn money rather than go to school and it impacted their life immensely. When they moved to the United States their hopes were to give their children a valuable education. Now, their example has impacted my life and has shaped me into who I am today.
Education to me is my strength to move forward, my coffee, my motivation. When I attend school I sit in my seat and look straight to the board and one thought flows through my mind: knowledge is power. I could think of a thousand reasons not to attend school but when I think of my future and my parent’s words of wisdom I value my education. Education is my shield for my future, it is my defense towards society. Not a single person can strip me of my knowledge, my thoughts, my wisdom. Knowledge is beautiful because every time I learn I know my brain is creating new neurons and connections releasing dopamine, motivating me to learn new material. It is something magical occurring inside me that I know it's worth all the endless nights studying, all the salty tears, and all my strength towards excellent grades.
#Brainpower. I want to flourish my intelligence and impact society with education. I have a passion for the challenging aspects of education. I know that no one is going to give me my intelligence, I have to earn knowledge myself. Education has given me a valuable experience; for example, AP English Literature and Composition has taught me to love my educational career. Reading gave me a new perspective on my career as a student, it has taught me the beauty of words constructed perfectly on paper forming a picture in my mind. Reading takes me into an infinite number of adventures whenever I want. The words on soft paper that create images the more I swing the delicate pages bring me bliss. Literature has brought meaning into my educational career giving me the knowledge of imagination and appreciation.
I am not in a competition with others but with myself. I strive for education because I know my parents aren’t going to give me that, neither my sisters or even the smartest human on earth. I am responsible for my education, I have to work towards my success, education matters to me, education is my life, my mind, my existence. #brainpower!
