Be more forward and tentative by Solomon - August 2022 Scholarship Essay
My senior year must be my best year.
Ever since middle school I was reluctant to join clubs or extracurricular activities. I was an introvert. It seemed fine to me that I only had to focus on grades. But my reluctance has led me to stay away from extracurriculars, some of which could have been helpful. These times were from previous years when I just had to worry about my grades. My senior year is different. I have been accepted into an early college dual-enrollment program at CSM. I now have to focus on college courses and programs in addition to my middle school classes. I will also have my first college experience one year early. Reluctance and being passive have only contributed to many of my past failures in school. My junior year has been all about training myself in focus. My senior year is now about being aware and tentative. Being aware and tentative are all parts of me maturing. I have to be mature to meet expectations and the tougher responsibilities I now have.
As I have gone through my path I have seen the fruits of growing and having those responsibilities. My junior year has been the best year of my school career. The 3.9 GPA I had at the end is proof of that. Before that year I distracted myself to keep away the thought of growing and dealing with the obligations of a growing young man. Now I accept them as they only serve to make me better. I do still struggle with being more outgoing. But as my experiences beyond my comfort zone increase, my skills and attitude toward growing will turn from anxiety to excitement. Once the year is over, I will be a completely different person. I will know the opportunities I have and will push towards them, not stray away from them. This year I must push through the pressure of responsibility and expectations. Only then will my potential be realized even more. My senior year must be and will be my best year.
