Early Birds vs. Night Owls by Sofia - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
According to research, people that wake up early are more productive and therefore more successful. I am more of a morning person; therefore, I would consider myself an early bird. I am more productive at this time because I wake up with more energy and I am motivated to do more. By waking up early I am able to eat a complete and healthy breakfast before going to school or work.
The less I procrastinate the less I have to worry about throughout the day. By waking up early I am able to plan my day and as a result, reduce stress. Reducing stress allows me to complete all of my daily tasks. Also waking up early gives me time to do a morning workout. This reduces my chances of waking up tired and feeling sleepy during the day. Being an early bird also helps me to get a good night’s rest and regain energy.
On the other hand, being a night owl caused me to be less productive because I went to sleep late, but I still had to wake up early for work or school. When I was more of a night owl, I would feel tired and hungry all day. I was less productive because I would stay up late doing my homework, but I was so tired that I could not finish my homework. The next morning, I would have to wake up early to finish my homework and I felt tired and moody all day.
I have come to the conclusion that when you wake up early you are more productive. If you wake up an hour early for a year you can gain about 365 hours an equivalent to 15 days. Therefore, if you wake up just an hour early for two years you could gain about 30 days. Knowing that I can gain more days motivates me to be more productive because I know I have more time to complete more of my tasks each day. As a morning person, the feeling of accomplishment you get after finishing a task early is better than getting an extra hour of sleep.
