The International Hub of Language by Sofia - August 2018 Scholarship Essay
Coming from an immigrant family, the diverse knowledge of language is very important to me as an individual, and I believe that those that have not felt the necessity of learning at least one language outside of their native language should reconsider their thoughts. Language is such an extraordinary concept, as an educated individual in another language, you are able to interact with those of another culture and society, gaining a perspective of a life individuals most likely have not lived themselves. Likewise, my podcast will be about the benefits of learning a language, along with the simple teaching of some of the basic knowledge of the languages I have learned, including: Spanish, English and Greek.
English and Spanish are two of the most spoken languages that exist internationally, and learning these languages will allow for individuals to explore the culture of other nations, developing a perspective not gained anywhere else. By all means, I am passionate about my knowledge of these languages, and driven to teach others about the intricacies that develop the mind thoroughly through the path to learning a language. Additionally, I am passionate because the knowledge of learning a language and understanding the music, customs and quirks of that society gets me driven to mastering the language at one point in my life. Through my passion, I would engage my audience in numerous ways to develop their understanding of the language, while having interactive question and answer sessions, switching languages depending on the audience’s preference. In these sessions, I would address the necessity of educating oneself in another language, mentioning the benefit in multicultural relationships, along with in the workplace and how having this through knowledge makes you attractive to employers. In all, I would desire for my audience to gain knowledge, even the smallest bit, through the interaction of my podcast, as understanding another's culture and language in such a ethnically diverse world brings people together.
