My inspiration by Skyler - May 2024 Scholarship Essay
The driving factor of my life throughout the years leads back to one word, inspiration. This word is my personal motto. To inspire is to ignite a flame in someone, that can grow into a burning passion. My mother has taught me the true meaning of this word and continues to show me new ways to implement it into my life. If not for my mom motivating me, I wouldn’t have been able to grow into the person I am today. She is my true inspiration. To abide by this word, I believe that attending college is the next necessary step.
Growing up as a minority in the South, I feel strongly that college would provide me with the opportunity to form bonds with people from diverse backgrounds. I'm eager to join study groups, attend lectures, and participate in extracurricular activities to gain insights into different perspectives. College would give me the opportunities I need to become a successful individual. Whether it be on campus or studying abroad I can see College shaping me into an inspirational adult. These experiences will help me develop as a person and prepare me to inspire others, just as they have inspired me.
My mom has been the most inspirational person in my life, raising my little sister and me as a single parent, despite the odds stacked against her. Her determination is what inspires me the most. Throughout the years, she has demonstrated incredible amounts of versatility and persistence, always encouraging me to chase opportunities like she had. She has shown me and encouraged me t further pursue my educational goals. I believe that college will provide me with a sense of independence and responsibility, characteristics I have witnessed in my mother for years. She is the true example of a leader. I eagerly approach the challenge of becoming more self-reliant and learning how to navigate different situations with grace.
The costs of college can be daunting, but there is no doubt in my mind that the years of education I will receive will pay off. By securing a degree, I'll be setting myself up for a brighter future and greater financial stability. Moreover, I have made a point to apply to as many scholarships, grants, and financial aid options as are available to help alleviate the financial burden of attending college. This scholarship would help me to achieve my educational goals without the worry of occurring debt. Without the help of scholarships, college wouldn’t be possible for me. I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunities scholarships present to me.
By attending college, I'll be gaining valuable skills and knowledge, forming meaningful relationships, and preparing myself for a successful future. Hopefully, I can show my true appreciation to my mother by giving college my best, just as she did while raising me. My dream is to major in computer science, and show my appreciation to my mother by completing my goals. I'm excited about the opportunities that attending college will bring, and I'm committed to working hard to achieve my goals of igniting inspiration in others.
