People are inherently unique by Skyler - February 2019 Scholarship Essay

People are inherently unique. Ever since I can remember, people have fascinated me. For somebody who knows me, hearing this fact would likely be very confusing. People terrify me, I’m incredibly socially awkward, I can’t stand being in a large crowd, and I can’t keep a steady voice when public speaking; despite all of this, people fascinate me. Everything about a person contributes in a small way to who they are as a whole, and every person works differently.

What started as a minor hobby of people-watching for me quickly turned into something much bigger as I got older. Once in high school, I took my first official Psychology course and fell in love with it instantly. I had an amazing teacher who was happy to answer any questions I could think of, and it inspired me to work even harder to learn everything that I could. Since taking her class, I have only developed more interest in the subject and fully intend on continuing to educate myself on it as I enter the Ohio State University Main Campus, and long after I graduate from it. I intend to go into the field of psychology, not only because I want to help people, but because it is rare for a person to be able to pursue their passion and make a living off of it.
