What Is The Purpose Of An Education by Simeon - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF AN EDUCATION?
Simeon J. Middleton
Education is important because education will give me the opportunity to be successful in life. Anyone who receives a college education will form friendships that will last a lifetime, and will learn the value of hard work and dedication. I have no doubt that several years down the line, I will look back and will attribute my personal and professional success to my college education.
For me, personally getting an education as an athlete is very important because if I don’t turn pro, I will still have a valuable skill set to fall back on. And if I want to remain in the field of athletics, there are sports-related degrees that I can take advantage of. There is always the threat of injury in sports, so getting my education is extremely important and every athlete should take that into consideration. An injury can end my basketball career, but it will not prevent me from getting a degree in Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Health and Fitness, Physical Education or Fitness and Wellness and ultimately opening a fitness gym. Education will be the key to my success.
In college I will need to be a student first and athlete second. Although athletics is a major part of my life, it is much more important to get my education, which will last a lifetime. My job is to get an education. Athletic participation is a plus.
