My Roadmap to Success by Sierra - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

In my ninth grade year, I came across a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt which states "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams" This quote is one of my favorite ones because I have always been encouraged by my parents to dream big and then make a plan on how I will achieve my dreams. I believe what I have been involved with through my academics, extracurricular activities, community service, and relationships has provided me some really great moments that I have loved so dearly and can say they have made me a better person. These endeavors helped me narrow down a major which is Pre-Law with an emphasis on Economics. I have a strong passion to work to improve laws and policies for human rights. I want my work to be meaningful and create a better, beautiful world for my community and others.

Ultimately, my dream is to attend a law school with a strong international law and human rights program to pursue my Juris Doctor (JD) to specialize in global public policies with Human rights. I have a strong passion to work to improve laws and policies for human rights. This passion originates from the community work I have been able to do with the YWCA and Youth Philanthropy Council. I have witnessed the needs of disadvantaged populations and the hardships they encounter to make a living and provide for their families. My service in the soup kitchens, YWCA projects, and ELL school projects has shown me there is a great deal of work to do to ensure we are doing the necessary work for all people. It has been so humbling and eye-opening for me over the years which has made me want to be a huge advocate for better policies and laws.

I know it will take hard work, sacrifice, and effort to ensure my dreams are fulfilled over the next six years. I am confident that my passion for change, commitment to my academics, and network will provide me with all the tools that I need to succeed.
