Science Shaped My Future by Sierra - February 2025 Scholarship Essay

A particular subject that has sparked my intellectual curiosity is biology and anatomy. I have completed a couple of biology classes and it fascinates me. Biology has intrigued me so much that it heavily ties into what I will major in once I go to college. I have chosen to major in equine rehabilitation which relates to biology since it focuses on a living organism and it is very anatomy-focused as I will have to know a lot about equine anatomy. Following graduating college not only do I plan to work in equine rehabilitation but also start breeding horses which is solely based on biology.
Biology has fascinated me since I was little and I have always loved learning about animals and their genetics. I especially always found genetics and DNA interesting and loved looking into dominant and recessive traits through punnett squares which is another reason I want to breed horses. Anatomy became a more recent interest freshman and sophomore years of high school as I got to dissect several animals including a pig, a cat, and several others. If I hadn’t got the experience of dissecting these animals I don’t think I would have been nearly as interested in rehabilitation. These sciences have inspired me and will continue to be an important foundation for my future career.
