My Goals by Sierra - August 2022 Scholarship Essay
The academic year is rapidly approaching, as I move in on August 20th and begin my classes on my 22nd. To be able to truly reach my highest potential in the semester and year it is important to set goals for myself. With these goals it is easy to quantify what I need to do to stay on track and see where I need to work and improve for the next academic challenges I will be facing. To truly prepare I must look at what I am, in this upcoming semester I will be taking physics, human anatomy, cell biology, and a seminar class to work on public speaking. All three of the science classes that I will be taking will be accompanied by a lab. I am also on the softball team at Newberry College, and that adds a whole new level of work to everything I am doing. With a workload that is this heavy one of my first and most important goals is to stay on top of my work. If I get behind there will be an extreme amount of work to catch up on and that could affect how I do on the assignments, I am turning in. The less stressed I make myself the more it will seem like a manageable beast to tackle. If I can keep my levels of stress down, then school will overall seem very enjoyable over the semester.
There are always the obvious goals of keeping my grades up, ideally, I want to have a 4.0 for the semester and year as I am sure all other students do. That is a goal that can be accomplished through hard-work and good study habits. There is a less numerical goal that I would like to reach for, and that is pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I have always been the type of person to choose and stay in rather than go out and experience something because I may not enjoy it. I want to push myself some and see if I really will have fun when I approach things with an open mind. If I have an open mind maybe I can make more friends that will be helpful to me in what I am trying to achieve and make some good friends along the way. I have made friends while being at school, but I know there is even more out there for me to explore in my time as a student. I want to see
