A Vital Asset for Success by Sienna - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
As the treasurer for my high school's FBLA chapter, I undoubtedly think that leadership is an extremely vital skill to succeed in college. This past weekend I attended and competed in the FBLA 2015 State Leadership Conference/Competition in San Antonio, Texas and it showed me how important it is to have this prominent skill. Being a leader not only gets you a step ahead of everyone but also opens you up to many more opportunities. With effective leadership, everyone involved can be confident that what they are working on is for a greater good and that a big impact is being made. Some important leadership skills include commitment, risk-taking, motivation, communication skills, and being able to set goals. Obtaining an interpretation of these skills and using them to your finest ability will certainly allow you to succeed not only in college but in your future career as well.
The difference between a manager and a leader is that a leader does the right thing, whereas a manager does things right. Leaders go the extra mile and find the best and most effective way to get work done. While management is merely an occupation, leadership is a calling. True leadership is about taking people to places they would not or could not go on their own and also being trustworthy. Achieving that level of loyalty and dedication is next to impossible without the genuine allegiance inspired by true leadership skills. Leadership is a do or die dexterity needed for a successful college career and should be practiced regularly.
