Technology and How It Impacted Me In The Classroom by Sidney - January 2020 Scholarship Essay

My generation has seen the change of technology in the classroom over the years. We went from learning off of the big box projectors to smart boards. We went from missing class and missing the lesson, to be able to miss class but watch the lecture and not skip a beat. Technology in the classroom is one of the greatest things that could have come out of this past decade. The amount of times watching a YouTube video has helped me solve a math equation or how to format an APA essay works cited page. My generation has truthfully watched the changes in technology and how it has impacted the classroom in a positive manner.
Technology allows students to learn in different ways. There are so many different resources with all the same information. For example, I am an audio learner, I comprehend the material so much better when I hear it, rather than seeing it. At the beginning of the school year, my class was assigned to read a book. We each received our own copies of the book but, I could not comprehend the book no matter how many times I read it. I would do horribly on all the little quizzes we had throughout reading the book. Halfway through the book, my teacher offered to play the audiobook at the end of school for those who needed it. After attending the after-school readings, I started to ace my quizzes and eventually aced the final test over the entire book. Without technology, an audio book would have never been possible, and I would have never excelled in comprehending the book.
Technology in the classroom also allows people to learn at their own pace where ever they are at. When I was in elementary school, I remember if I would miss one day, it would be so hard for me to understand what I missed, because I wasn’t there when the teacher taught the lesson. Now, as a senior in high school, it doesn’t matter if I am present or absent because my teachers can record themselves teaching the lesson and post it to our classroom portal. Now, no matter if I am sick or on the road for high school sports tournaments, I never fall behind in class all thanks to technology.
Technology in the classroom also motivates students to learn. I remember when I was in elementary and junior high and my teacher would say “If you get an “A” on the test you get ten more minutes of computer time on Fridays,” I would make sure to study my hardest to get an “A” and those extra ten minutes. Having those incentives growing up, taught me how to study hard and earn good grades for myself. Now a senior in high school and about to go into college, I have the best study habits ever. Thanks to technology I know in life if I study hard now, I will get rewarded later.
I am extremely thankful to have grown up in the generation. Without the help of technology, I would not be as nearly successful as I am now. I also would not be able to find nor submit this essay if it weren’t for technology. Although there are so many other ways, I could have talked about how technology impacts me in the classroom in a positive way, these are some of the main reasons, and I could not be any more thankful for everything that got me to this point in my life.
