Explaining the Importance of Continued Learning to a Second Grade Student by Shirley - March 2018 Scholarship Essay

To begin with, education is really important and it is a big part in most people’s life. In order for a kid to be successful in life one has to teach them and give them advice on the importance of continuing to learn. The correct way I would explain the importance of continuing to learn to a second grade student is by telling them first the definition of education. Education is the process of acquiring knowledge after learning a particular subject or experiencing life lessons that give an understanding of something. This is what I would tell a second grade student first and I would try to explain it in the easiest possible way for them to understand because they are still young and they do not know a lot of words yet.
After explaining the definition of education I would tell them that continuing to learn is something important because it leads you to get an education. I would tell them that if they stop learning they will not be able to obtain an education which is really important because without one they will have difficulties. The difficulties they would have if they stop learning will be that they will not have a lot of money to pay bills and this will make them get worried because they will just be focused on working to get the right amount of money they need. If this happens I would tell them how they will not be able to go out with their friends or have fun if they only focus on working. Another difficulty that I would tell them is that they will not be able to buy whatever they want and how it will not be easy for them to find a job if they stop learning. I will give them the example of how a person that continues to learn and becomes whatever they want is preferred than the one who stops learning and does not become anything. This leads for me to explain to them that this will not be fair because they will be treated badly and they will have to deal with it because it will be hard for them to find another job. I will also tell the second grade student that they will not be able to go on vacations or travel to other countries because they will not have enough money. This will make me tell them how in some jobs, the ones who do not have an education sometimes do not get vacations and how this is important because who would not want to have vacations and explore other places. Another thing I would tell the second grade student is that if they continue to learn they will be smarter and learn more things that they might be even smarter than their friends. I would also mention that if they continue to learn and get an education they will be happy and how they will not worry about many things.
Telling a second grade student the importance of continuing to learn will make them understand and realize that getting an education is really important. I will tell the student that if they do not continue to learn they will not know the history of their country or other countries and they will not know the necessary knowledge for them to go on to the next school grade. Another thing that I would tell a second grade student is that if they continue to learn that they should learn another language because those who know two languages or more have preference over a person who only knows one language. I would also tell them how if they continue to learn and become someone they will be able to help their parents or siblings whenever they have problems. One important thing I would tell them is how if they get an education that it is important to give back to one’s parents because parents are there for us and help us a lot.
All of these things are what I would tell a second grade student because in reality without an education life is hard. That is why continuing to learn is really important because it gets you where you want to be. I would tell them that if they continue to learn they will go through struggles and how they should not stop or let anything get to them because in the end everything will be worth it. They will be successful and their parents will be proud of them, but mostly they will be proud of themselves because they were able to accomplish their goals.
