What does attending college mean for you by Shieda - June 2013 Scholarship Essay

For me attending mean getting an opportunity to get a head start on life. I want to attend Saint Augustine in the fall to become a substance abuse counselor. The reason I chose this profession, is because of my love for talking to and helping people. Also I just don’t feel that enough people choose to take up this highly needed profession. For the last two years I have been a volunteer at the South Village Nursing home. Being around so many different kinds of people has made my love for helping people increase even more. It was hard work, but hard work pays off in more ways than one. Even though I didn’t get paid for my time and effort, the knowledge and experiences that I gained are priceless, and it will stay with me for a lifetime.
I know you probably her the same thing from thousands of other applicants, however, in the family that I come from not many people have attended a college university. Then the ones who have either dropped out or still ended up with nothing. My plan is to do the exact opposite, my goal is to finish college and use the Knowledge and perks that I gain to help me advance as far as I can in today’s life. I hope that you will choose me as the winning applicant, thank you for your time and attention.
