The Simple Room by Shelby - July 2020 Scholarship Essay

My dream classroom would be a small in person (face to face) classroom. I just graduated from High School and the last 3 months of my senior year were online. I felt very disconnected to my teachers and my fellow classmates. It was somewhat difficult for me to stay motivated as it was easy to just not get on any of the zoom calls knowing I could go to the dashboard and do it on my own at any time. I never realized how important it is emotionally and socially to sit in a class room with other students until I was not able to do it.

I know it seems like such a simple dream but until I lost what I was used to and had always known, I didn't realize how much it meant to me. I took being silly and laughing with my classmates for granted. I definitely took my teachers for granted.

I also learned that I am a hands on learner. I need to be in a class room with others and a teacher. It is how I learn best. So as simple as this dream may seem, it is what I hope for as I head off to college in the Fall.
