Brighter Tomorrows by Shelby - June 2013 Scholarship Essay
Brighter tomorrows are not far off, I say to myself as I struggle to pay afford rent, transportation, and food. My student loans are heavy on my shoulders as I work and go to school full time. I am a first generation student, whos parents did not attend college themselves. My parents work full time jobs that often run into late hours and occassionally on the weekends as well. Making just enough money to afford the necessities, putting away college tuition for their three children was out of reach. My sisters and I have worked for years in order to help provide for ourselves to release as much burden off our parents as possible. As I struggle myself, I find hope in my misfortunes. I work hard in my classes and appreciate what I have as I accumulate student loans knowing it will all pay off in the future. I know that hard work and determination will let me become anything I set my mind to. I am confident that I will perserver regardless of financial obstacles and will one day become the physical therapist I have always dreamt of becoming. Being a physical therapist will allow me to recieve a steady, rewarding, salary. I will then be able to support myself and become an independent woman with an education and career. Seeing my parents struggle empowers me with willpower and determination to better myself. College is a whole lot of brighter tomorrows.
