Martin Luther King Jr. by Sheena - February 2016 Scholarship Essay
If I could have dinner with any historical figure, I would choose Martin Luther King Jr. Although there are many historical figures I could choose from such as Michael Jackson, Patrick Henry, or John Locke, I chose Martin Luther King Jr. for several reasons. I would have dinner with Martin Luther King Jr. because I want him to know about what is going on throughout America concerning racial issues. I chose Martin Luther King Jr. because I want to be enlightened by his positive outlook on life and his opinion on equality. I want to have dinner with Martin Luther King Jr. because he has been through the civil rights movement, and I would want to listen to real life experiences coming from a real person.
I want Martin Luther King Jr. to know about the police brutality and racial profiling America is going through today. Although slavery has been abolished, racial issues reside among our states. I wonder what he would think of that and what he would suggest our society should do to fix it. I want Martin Luther King Jr. to tell me about his views on social issues. His speech “I Have A Dream” has had such a lasting effect in today’s society. Every student in California has read or heard about Martin Luther King and his accomplishments as a civil rights activist. I want Martin Luther King Jr. to tell me about his experiences that he went through during the civil rights movement. I want to hear about his struggles and what it was like to live in a society where color determined your seat on the bus or where you went to school. Martin Luther King Jr. is such an influential person in America that I think he should come back to life and witness our society today.
